THE WINE & THE REGION
Franca Franci’s Tassi winery was born almost twenty years ago. Out of respect for our territory originated the decision to begin the process of conversion of the azienda to organic farming, firmly determined to express itself through a craft production characterized by manual handling. From this approach were born two distinct kinds of Brunello: Tassi and Franci, two wines originating from distinct vineyards in order to preserve and promote the unique qualities of each. The Tassi vine – with a denser plantation of Sangiovese – produces a structured, fresh, elegant and fruity Brunello. The Franci vine on the other hand, although it too is south-facing, is over 40 years of age and is more spaciously planted, giving form to a Brunello that is more complex, traditional, refined and full-bodied. The Riserva, made only in a few thousand bottles, is produced exclusively from the finest harvests. The winery, that produces also Rosso di Montalcino and IGT, has recently acquired another hectare of vineyards and completed the construction of the new wooden cellar.
THE STYLE
A wine of great structure with well-developed, soft and present noble tannins. Intense ruby red color tending to garnet. The bouquet is complex, the intense and delicate aroma with prevailing red fruit and hints of berries. On the palate it reveals great personality and superb taste. Excellent combinations with game birds.
PAIRING NOTES
Food craving and pairing with Sangiovese might have been a boar roast if you’re in Italy. A pot roast made with beef, but with an Italian twist. The fall-apart tender roasted beef (“stracotto” in Italy) is an ideal pairing with the higher tannins of Sangiovese.
